Macbeth

Me and the artists Marta Quileri and Amelia Prazak developed a proposal for a performance in June 2009 based on “Macbeth”, a play by Shakespeare. Our starting point was The 3 witches and Lady Macbeth, a character who represented the line between complete madness and death.

We’ve created a new script of a physical theatre performance, based on the feminine world and the journey to madness, lasting approximately half an hour. The performance started with the death of Lady Macbeth and finished with a scene representing the beginning of her journey, that we believed it was with her having a miscarriage.

The only characters of the play except Lady Macbeth are the 3 witches, who represent her mind and her conscious and unconscious thoughts. Because of that symbolism the costume of the witches is just a black fabric with a box inside, where all Lady Macbeth’s thoughts are projected (literally).

Also all the props that come to the stage are brought by the boxes that are in the witches’s costume.

Macbeth and also the King appear projected as they are images and consequence of her mind and hallucinations.
