As part of the Friday Late at V&A Hot Brazil, Braziliality produced and exhibited 2 installations.

Braziliality presents Frevo Drop

Installation in the Grand Entrance, designed by Alicia Bastos and Bianca Turner, Frevo Drop takes its inspiration from the colourful umbrellas traditionally used in Recife carnival.

Braziliality presents The Adventures of Vitória & Alberto in Brasil

Have you ever dreamt of being a soap star? Don’t miss your chance at London-based collective Braziliality’s telenovela spectacular. Pick up a prop and a script and act your heart out in the V&A’s take on Brazilian costume drama.  Those too shy to join in can watch the live transmission from the comfort of the V&A Café.

It is a video installation with live streaming.

In July 2011, as part of Hackney Wicked festival, and celebrating Braziliality’s 3 years of existence, we made the festival and exhibition ‘I am braziliality’. With more than 40 international artists and 3000 visitors, the exhibition was a success.

Created, curated, directed and produced by Brazilialiaty: Me, Alicia Bastos and Pier Tosta.

As part of the exhibition, I exhibited as artist a video installation of ‘Introducing new species’ done by the collective FrancoTurnerTchais.

The video show speaks for itself!

Two videos on MTV Brazil.

One talking about my ancestors, genetic memory and my video installation ‘Saray’ that was a work done on these theme, having as a starting point my grandmother who was born in Sarajevo, and me being nostalgic about a place which I have never been before.

The other video talks about Narrative. João Maia asked me if as a child I used to confuse narrative and reality. I say: “As a child I used to confuse narrative with reality, in fact I still do, as an adult. I believe that you create the narrative you want with the facts of your own life.”

the exhibition of my work

Exhibiting my work for the degree show of Performance Design & Practice @ Central Saint Martins, It wasn’t an easy task.

After 3 years of intense work and so diverse projects and collaborations, I chose 3 of those to present at the final exhibition.

On a black space, I had my 3 best projects: the video and sound installation ‘Saray’, the proposal of multimedia performance “Fast,Past, Present’ and the movement piece ‘Unwrapped’, done in collaboration with Marta Quilleri and irineu Nogueira.

The projects had a 3 screen with a video of the piece and some images.

When I got to the Prague QD of Performative Space, in which Brazil won the Golden Prize, I saw that they displayed the projects in the same way I did for my degree show, always having TV screens showing videos of the actual performance.

Nowadays the moving image is so powerful, and for the viewer to understand the piece, only photographs and models are not accurate, because you don’t get the idea of the space WITH MOVEMENT.

on top, in black, photograph of my degree show, and down, in pink, the Brazil area on the prague quadrennial of scenography.

poetry SLAM

ZAP! Autonomous Zone of the Word is the first night of “Poetry Slam” (League of poetry) from Brazil.
It happens every second Thursday of the month at the headquarters of the Center of Bartholomew Testimonials-Hip Hop Theatre. (Nucleo Bartolomeu de Depoimentos)

It is a space dedicated to spoken words, now free, space in time where diversity is the guest of honor and the main goal is the celebration of the word.

At each meeting, people from different ages, professions, world views, wishes and beliefs come together to share words, ideas, experiences and viewpoints. Inside loud polyphonic Sao Paulo, a suspension in time-space. Silence.

They all stop to listen, see and feel: POETRY

Rules of Slam:
1) A poem (or text) at a time and must be written by the poet (readable)
2) Without accessories, without costumes, without musical accompaniment.
3) The poems must have a maximum of 3 minutes (or less) plus 10 seconds bonus. After this time every 10 seconds exceeded 1 point is deducted.

A jury of five people, randomly selected or chosen at the time the presenter (host / mc) among the public, gives a statement after each poem on a scale from 0.0 to 10.0, and there may be broken grades (eg 7.8 or 9, 6 ….). In addition to the text content, the jury should be aware of how it is presented.
The jurors judge: Form + Content, poetic inspiration + performance.
The highest and lowest marks are dropped. A wizard (in ZAP the “Zapitágoras”) makes the “average” and the notes are marked in a blackboard where everyone can see.
It is Three rounds, so who wants to participate in the slam poetry must have three different poems. All the poets are included in the first round. The Top marks are part of the second and so on until the third and last, where it is voted the “Zapeão”(first place) for the night.
The “Zapeão” for the night takes home a prize of culture: books! Books! Books! besides CDs and DVDs!

braziliality may

More of my work as graphic designer and production designer of Art Exhibitions.

For Braziliality, I work as a production designer, designing and organizing the exhibitions on-site and assisting the artists both visually and practically. I strongly believe in encouraging collaboration between artists, that’s why working in Braziliality is so exciting for me: “It allows me to meet new people and different styles of work, different perspectives, with only one purpose: art!”
